Go Glam or go Home!

So tonight as I sat sipping a nice big glass of red wine* and tuned into the Golden Globes, I couldn't help but think that this years dresses were really beautiful.  Nothing was totally hideous (Tilda Swinton is always excused because her acting makes up for it...) and most of the ladies put in a solid effort.
*(note, award shows offer a diet exemption to drink wine)

 I won't go into a full-on snarky yet overly detailed analysis of my top fashion winners and losers (I'll leave that for the serious fashion bloggers), and instead I'll share my fave few. Simple enough!

{Ok, so before you go all whoa; why the brainy teen from Modern Family?? It's because Ariel Winter looked absolutely adorable and yet totally age appropriate. Love the shoes, the rich shade of purple and the demure yet glam hair.}
If the skirt could be modified towards less ruffle and more of a fitted style I'd wear it in a heartbeat!

{Elle Macpherson looks like a bit of a frilly confection here but she pulls it off like almost no one else can. Her hair and the flare on her dress are the size of Texas. Big and bold...super glam, no!?}

{Jessica Alba was perfection in Gucci, the powdery purple of dress doesn't really come through in this pic but it looked amazing on TV, most definitely my favorite gown of the night.}

{My honorable mention goes to the always amazing Sofia Vergara, her sapphire blue Vera Wang was a super bold mermaid silhouette but as always she worked it and then some. Gorgeous without too much cleavage.}

There you have it, short but sweet. A simple round-up of what caught my eye at the Golden Globes.
Who were your favorite stars of the night?

Friday greatness!

 Just a quick thank you to the lovelies who've been spreading some lurve around lately. I snagged these fabulous new awards...

Thanks  to Tamara Nicole at Memory Bean Designs for the "You Dazzle Girl!" award

A big shout out and thanks to Irene at Lovely Violet for the "Tres Chic Award"

Both of these girls have fun little blogs so go on and check them out!

You also have to take a quick peek at  Memory Bean Designs,  and her Etsy Shop- Tandy Photography
Look at this fabulous photo that I recently won in her latest Giveaway. She most definitely is a talented photog...I had such a hard time deciding which of her pics to choose.
Woot woot, Mama is indeed a WINNER!

Don't you just love this pic? Its of the island of Santorini, Greece. One of my favorite places I've ever visited.  Husband and I were engaged there while watching an amazing sunset 9 whole years ago!!  Spectacular views and amazing blue water. A trip to the Greek Islands is so worth doing at least once in your lifetime!

Have a great weekend kids!!!

Oscar Fashion Round Up!

So here's the low-down on this fashion show-down! My lurves and hates! Feast your pretty eyes on these delights and disasters....

The Lovely Jennifer Lopez...beautiful and radiant as always in Armani Prive.

Although Husband has always thought Penelope Cruz resembles a rat- like creature (dunno WHERE he gets that idea from), I think Ms. P is stunning in this heavily draped, bordeaux red, Donna Karan gown.

Sandra Bullock is wonderful in full length golden lace by Marchesa. Loved the hair and make-up (lipstick was actually red) and I think all the dresses looked better up on stage than on the red carpet (lighting makes a HUGE difference)

Ok, to be honest I really don't know who the hay Zoe Saldana is?! (Avatar) but her Givenchy purple ruffles were a perfect confection,,and great with her skin tone. Didn't care for the slit at the front of the dress though...

Ok, now it's time to get tough...while there were plenty of meh, ho-hum dresses (which is kinda disappointing and unfortunate), these ones really made me say WHY LADIES WHY????

These are most definitely the worst offenders... and some are serious repeat offenders.

Really SJP? really?... shiny-pale yellow and sack-like are not great ways to describe an Oscar gown....just sayin'

Mariah what decade are you living in exactly? Could there be any more wrong with this mess dress....the length, the cut, the broachy thing on her hip. And those SHOES?! They're so wrong for the "dress".   Shoot your stylist now. NOW.
Or go directly to jail- you are a HUGE repeat offender.

Charlize, after I just finished a post about how wonderful you are, and you are... you go ahead and wear the rosette on the boob dress. Colour is great but that's it. Fail.

Diane Kruger, fantastic in Inglorious Basterds. I really like her acting and she's a true German beauty but this dress makes her look just plain bad. In fact the hair/dress/make-up is doing NOTHING for her....

Tina Fey proves that just because you're funny, cute and likable, it doesn't mean you know how to dress at all? One shoulder, leopard printed mess...and that poof hair. Not funny Tina, not funny at all...

Unfortunately I think there were more misses then hits.... there's always next year ladies.

It's Mardi Gras... time for the Hawaiian Shoppin' 411

As promised, I'm dedicating a post to my shopping adventures in Honolulu. I swear this will be the last time I talk about Hawaii because there's more to life then tropical islands- unfortunately!

Seriously there are some high-end stores in Honolulu...they've got the Japanese tourist covered head to toe -with Gucci and LV Speedy's of course.  I was shocked at how many designer shops there were in the Ala Moana Center (one of the main malls in Honolulu). Right beside ordinary stores like Ann Taylor and Vic's Secret there was Dior, Harry Winston, Jimmy Choo, Bvlgari, Hermes.... in a MALL!
And was Mama shopping in any of those stores? Hellz no! But I did pick up some great finds... let's review.

{ From the Ugg Store, new for spring, Bailey Button Uggs in 'Dusty Wysteria'
and sooo much cheaper then they are in Canada. Why must we always be price gouged so badly?}

{From Kate Spade, the Fiona Ballet slippers in green, and a green corsage silk top in Peridot green. Top was regularly $275US, on for $90. I absolutely lurve peridot green, vibrant and bold!}
*Kate Spade isn't really my style, but her clean lines and classic look are sometimes so appealing.  And the Fiona slippers honestly do not look silly with the present-stylez-bow on them. Super cute I swear!

From my new fave store, Macy*s,  I picked up a swack-load of INC shirts, a dress and even shorts. All on sale, some items were as much as 75% off.  ...Yes Macy*s, we ARE speaking the same language.... the language of I LOVE shopping!

{ Joe's Jeans, Muse,dark Caitlin wash (with a 9" rise, that's right, no more muffin top for mama!),  and this INC dress in black}

{From Aeropostale- shirt and fleece pants, $9 each.  Whatevs, they were practically free.}
{Army hat, Pau vertical design from Crazy Shirt, great for the beach with my brown and pink bikini...if I ever get up the nerve to wear it!}

{From Sephora I picked up the much hyped- by Brooke at Oofa , Blu-Ray pressed powder and a bronzer by Cargo. I'm hoping this powder works face fixin' miracles, Mama's fingers are crossed!  I also grabbed the Lash stash mascara deluxe sampler- a great deal b/c you can sample so many brands without committing to a whole tube of product. All for $39.... holla!

This concludes our shopping highlight tour of Honolulu.
Note to shoppers: buying fall/winter clothing in Hawaii is awesooome because so much is on sale and the selection is huge. Not a lot of Hawaiian's are walking around in black, grey and brown knits and sweaters (obviously). Just one more reason to head over to the middle of the pacific in the middle of the winter!

P.S. A big shout out to my fave new Greek little lady, Irene at Lovely Violet  for the Premio Fashion Superficiales Award. My first European award. Lurve it!! I'll be passing it on in the future...
